3 Tricks to Make Time to Workout

While taking the trash out, I just wanted to scream.  It was already past 10:00 at night, I have already worked over 12 hours, the house was a mess, had yet another 3 hours of work to do, an hour of cooking to do… my head was spinning.

I tilted my head back gasping for air with frustration as I walked back up the driveway, leaving the trash can at the curb, and I saw something I forgot about: Stars.

It was a sweet little reminder that I have made my world so small.  It’s not even my world to begin with, so I needed to change.  Hopefully neighbors didn’t see this, but I lowered myself to the driveway not losing sight of those stars, until I was laying on my back.

Part of me was squimmish for a second, to think about ants or spiders, yet another part of me didn’t care.  I knew I needed this moment.  I needed God to open my eyes and mind, yet again.  To find time for the moments, experiences, and people that matter the most.

IMG_9981I’m sharing because you are not alone when it comes to being too busy, I can relate! The struggle is real! With that said, don’t get caught up in being busy or else you live right past the important things, and life will go on around you and without you.  Someday you will blink and realize years have gone by and you are still in the same place.  That you still didn’t start exercising like you wanted, or eating better, or praying, or being part of an uplifting community, or chasing those dreams… the list goes on.

Living a purposeful life doesn’t happen if you wait for the stars to perfectly align.

I am busy too, but claiming busyness robs life from us, don’t you think? What are the things you want to do, be, and seek, but  “can’t” because your life is too crammed?

Don’t be so busy that you can’t take care of yourself and do what matters most in this short life we do have.

Time is something we can’t get back, yet each day we spend it in the rat race of checking off lists and tasks, waiting for the stars to perfectly align before we do what we really need to be doing.

Reality Check: Those damn stars won’t align.

It can be overwhelming to know where to start or what program to begin.  Perhaps start with what you love?  For me, the nuts and bolts of being fit, strong, and healthy is 3 days of weight training in the gym.  I have found this is the easiest and most productive, getting the most results in shorter period of time.

Effective?  Yes, please!  I have a life to live and don’t want to be in the gym all day, everyday, or even two-a-days!

How do I choose my three days?

1. Look at your upcoming 7 day week.   Determine the days you absolutely cannot get to the gym for whatever reason (busy, travel, insert a thousand other excuses we all have here, etc).

2. Which days do you have left that are a possibility to workout for 1 hour?

3. Pick the 3 days that would work best to get them in and guard that time like a doctors appointment, like one of your kids birthday parties…. And let nothing take you from it.

Trust me, EVERYTHING and EVERYONE will try to take you from it, but remember to keep these dates for yourself.

What if I still can’t fit it in?

Well, honey… it’s time for a change.  Nobody can make you do it, except you.  Simplicity is a powerful word that requires action to live it, understand it, and reap the benefits of it.  Where we all want more out of a life, we can’t get it unless we choose to have LESS.

While being the Massage Mentor of quality massage therapists in Grandview Heights, Ohio, the team therapist for the Columbus Crew SC, a wife to an amazing husband, an online coach, national level figure competitor, and a daughter to someone I loved diagnosed with the heart wrenching ALS, I too wear many hats and looking to make a change… because it won’t happen for me, I know I need to make choices as much as you do.
